Nice place and food. A little bit pricy for students. Their beef toung is really great.

If you appreciate the true breadth of what yakitori can offer, Nanbankan is worth a stop. Prices are reasonable for what it is, too.OTOH if you just eat the basics, there are lots of other places that will fill your tummy, with less of a wait.

If I lived in LA, I'd think I'd find myself here very often. Solid izakaya experience without all the unnecessary glam.

Great food, great services.

Food was great, quality of ingredients was much better than anticipated for a yakitori place! There is a $10 minimum order per person (as of 2/13/20), about 2 skewer orders, so not at all excessive. Will definitely be going back!!

Without question, my favorite Japanese restaurant in Los Angeles. The classic wood fired charcoal cooked food is just perfection. The chefs are all classically trained and care very deeply about what they are doing. You can see the focus they put into results and are all handsomely rewarded with beers of appreciation throughout the night. I can only say, try everything on the menu. Some items may look strange, sound like poor mans food, what?!?!! but, the taste and experience will set you free. You will leave wishing you had tried more, I promise you. Drink Sake hot and cold. They have a nice breadth of offerings.Most importantly, come here with confidence and bring your family. I do and have been for over ten years.

Excellent quality, lovely atmosphere

I would definitely recommend this place. Nice service, delicious food with moderate prices. From Japanese perception, the dishes are very nice. If you want to try out real Japanese cuisine for good price and atmosphere, this is the place to visit.

Excellent Japanese grills. A must try is the black cod, chicken gusset, beef tongue, which is super good that made me ordered 5 times after the first order

Love this yakitori place.. good food, good sake, good service! The okra, wagyu and stuffed shiitake, scallops was my fave..

Incredible Delights of food I was very impressed

It was quite busy when we got there on Sunday night, estimated waiting time is about 30 mins. The moment we sat down, then we were told that we would only have 1 hour and 25 mins for dinner by an old Asian lady who took care of the reception. But we did have a wonderful dinner and stay far beyond the time that she told us. The barbecue was awesome, except the roast squid and Yaki Onigiri.

Best yakitori I've had. You could roll dice to choose from the menu and not be disappointed, the atmosphere is great, and the limited-time items are all incredible.

Very friendly hostess. Very good yakitori course menu. Added some skewers of gyutan that was especially on point. Edamame cooked and seasoned perfectly.

I can necer image such a great restaurant of yaki.They reach the perfection level in term of yaki.Great service and atmosphere also.so far, best yaki in U.S.A.

Food was good and the staff is very friendly. However, the service was very slow when it came to bringing drinks, taking orders, and bringing the check.

Perfectly cooked charcoal grill skewers in an authentic setting with attentive chefs and involved hosts. The chicken wing, cartilage, skin skewers are savory favorites. I had a daily special of yellowtail collar that was perfectly charred to release the lightly sweet flavor of the fatty cut. The grilled clams are garnished with just the right amount of sea salt to being out the succulent seafood flavor. Sit back with your friends, have some hot sake and cold beer while you wait for each delicious dish to arrive!

One of the best restaurants in West LA. Must try! All staff is super super friendly. Awesome vibe and great yakitori. One of the only place you can find legit Ginnan in LA. Try to make a reservation at the counter so you can see how the chiefs make your wonderful food. Btw check out the little Osaka next to it!

It is a small intimate restaurant. Prices are reasonable. Be warned they don't accept American Express. The food was good. The fish dishes we had were excellent and the stuffed shiitake mushroom was very tasty. The grilled brussel sprouts were underwhelming. Our waiter was very good, However the restaurant has a 90-minute eating limitation. Which starts from the moment you sit. Not from the moment you're served. Because of this the staff is stressed and the night we were there the restaurant missed the whole reason for us going there. The 93rd birthday of my mother-in-law (difficult to repeat). I would not recommend this restaurant for celebrations at all! Go for a nice dinner with one person. I personally would also suggest you don't get the triangle rice ball things.

Good food and nice service

I have been going here since the early 80's we used to sit our first born in his seat under the sushi bar. LOVE the chefs & the staff, thou I have moved away ,whenever I am in LA my son (now 35) we go,The owner still remembers us.The food has never changed, it's excellent! Highly recommend this gem in W. L.A. ..Can't wait to travel back again, soon

Probably the best Yakitori restaurant on the west side. Get the liver, chicken breast with wasabi, thigh with green onion, meat balls, wings, gizzards and okra. Do it!

Its better than most

I've never tasted burdock root that was so mouthwateringly tender. The beef sung through the epic sauce, the clams were inspired... so much more was so much more. I had to get seconds :)I will be back for sure - the space, the service and EVERYTHING we had was purrfect.

Everything I had at Nanbankan was delicious, but I'm not a fan of the bar scene due to the noise. I tried the smoked dashi ramen, spicy chicken wings, and Japanese Old Fashioned whiskey cocktail.The prices are a little higher than I'd like, so I can't come back too frequently, but at least you get what you pay for! I do want to come back for more ramen, and the shaved ice looked very tempting.
